You may have been told by music teachers that it is better to practice a small amount every day rather than the same amount all at once. How true is this really? As someone who learned to juggle and play instruments at around the same time in my life, I found this study on practice techniques fascinating!
A recent study on juggling showed that spreading practice out over several days leads to better retention compared to practicing in a single session. Participants who practiced for just 10 minutes a day over three days performed better than those who practiced for 30 minutes straight in one day. These findings show the importance of practicing a little bit each day. Whether you’re learning an instrument or juggling, consistent practice sessions with longer breaks will help you improve steadily and retain skills over time.
