Improving Confidence

Have you ever experienced negativity in your thoughts, like a small voice often repeating "I'm incapable" or "I don't fit in"? A recent study from the 1970s found that repeating thoughts to yourself can help them stick in your mind. In the study, students were tasked with rating a set of statements on a scale from very true to very untrue. When the questions were repeated, students believed that the statements were more accurate. Noa Kageyama, Ph.D., explains that the more we hear a statement, the more believable it may appear to us, even if it is not necessarily true. When dealing with your inner critic, it is helpful to reframe its words into a more positive and constructive approach. This can be great when practicing for performances!
